Safety through Design
Despite the prevalence of travel apps, safety concerns for women in public spaces remain largely unaddressed, leading many to alter their routes and transportation choices to mitigate risks. Studies show that fear and anxiety while using public transport or walking in certain areas significantly impact women's mobility and access to the city. This research aims to analyze existing travel apps, like Google Maps, from a feminist perspective to identify design shortcomings and propose improvements that prioritize women's safety, promoting gender equality in urban mobility. By enhancing these apps, the goal is to empower women to plan safer journeys and reduce the insecurity they face in public spaces.
